CAFTA, PATRIOT Act, and John Roberts

Wednesday, July 27th, 2005

Keeping this short. Or trying to any way.

CAFTA passed the Senate and is still pending in the House. Bush is trying to get the House to pass it before Congress goes on recess this weekend. Ask your Representatives to oppose HR 3045. (The Senate Bill that passed is S 1307.) Senators Vitter and Landreui both voted against it. Melanacon is on the no list. Some Louisisana Reps. are in the yes list. http://www.thelibertycommittee.org/caftavotecount.htm This will be a close vote.

The PATRIOT Act Renewal passed the House (HR 3199). The Senate Bill is S 1266 but no vote look to be coming up soon. Senator Arlen Spector (Republican – Pennsylvania) has made a threat to try to attach an Emryonic Stem Cell Research Bill to an Appropriations Bill. If this happens, vote no for the whole thing.

Support John Roberts for the Supreme Court.

There is also a Bill to help protect Louisiana Wetlands and to Restore the Coast. I saw several Bills and did not have time to look through them all. This will come from taxpayer money, but Louisiana needs it. (And all the other states take taxpayer money as well, so why not us?)

Live 8 and Indepedence Day

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

Hope everyone had a good Forth of July.

I am sick of hearing about Live 8 and I have gone out of my way to avoid it. Unfortuneately, it had to get mentioned in the news at least a lot and AIM had a link to it on their start up screen. I will be glad when this crap is old news. I don’t tell you how to play your music (which most of you suck at) because I know little about music (yes, I too suck at it). Don’t tell me how to fix poverty, live my life, or how to vote on political issues, which are things you know nothing about.

Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor announced her retirement on Friday. O’Connor is a moderate and is neither the best nor the worst Justice on the Court. When Bush nominates someone, all hell is sure to break lose. Hopefully the Democrats won’t filibuster and the Republicans won’t go nuclear. Congress is in recess for the Forth of July, so no new bills.

The MPAA is having it’s worse summer in a real long time. Good.

I have been doing some C# / ASP.NET at work. Still learning it, but it’s not a bad language.

Cindy is paying Louisiana a visit tonight. Shouldn’t be too bad here. Dennis seems like a bigger concern, but too early to tell where it’s going to go.

I need to upgrade bblog still.

1 year, 10 days. I need to put up a clock.
