OK. I haven’t posted here in a while. Not since December 1. Almost two months. I have some catching up to do.
On December 3 and 4 I helped with Archbishop Hannan’s Senior Retreat. These students were looking forward to their senior year and had it taken away from them as a result of Katrina. At least they will have something to share together as a class and I was glad I was able to be a part of it. I may post some links later.
Robin and I spent the week before Christmas and the week between Christmas and New Years together. On New Years Night, I ended up with a kidney stone. I was preparing to leave Baton Rouge and come back to Slidell and the stone came out of no where. Robin’s parents took me to the emergency room at Our Lady of the Lake. I felt like crap for a week or so but am better now.
We also put down a deposit on our reception hall, the Jefferson Orleans South http://www.jeffersonorleans.com/ . I did that Monday after New Years. (My mom drove me because I was drugged up on pain medicine.) I think I already mentioned that we had a Church. If not, it’s St. Ann.
The Alito hearings took place last week. I am 99% sure Alito will be confirmed so I am not going to over analyze. (As long as the President and the Senate Majority are of the same party, this is almost a given unless the President picks a really bad nomination (like Harriet Miers would have been).) Alito voted pro-abortion three out of four times. No one knows where he truly stands and he can’t say much since anything he says can be used against him in the Senate hearings.
Speaking of Abortion, this weekend is the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade. I went to a Pro-Life Mass this morning (but could not go to the march because I had a funeral to go to shortly after that). Anyone who knows me knows where I stand on this. During the Alito hearings, the Democrats wanted Alito to say that Roe is a precendent that he would not over turn. Well wasn’t Plessy v. Ferguson precendent? Shouldn’t that have meant it should not have been overturned? Well it was a bad decision that was eventually realized and was overturned in Brown v. Board of Education. Roe v. Wade was a bad decision and sooner or later the Supreme Court will realize that. Dred Scot was also a Supreme Court case that was wrongly decided. Is that Precedent? Of course it was overturned as a result of the 13th Amendment. Kelo v. New London is another recent case that was wrongly decided. Even some liberals realize this. Sooner or later it will also be overturned. In the mean time, Supreme Court Justice David Souter may be looking for a place to live as someone is trying to use the case to turn Souter’s ranch into the Lost Freedom Hotel.
I bought some stamps and finally mailed some stuff that has been sitting around since September. I know. Bout time.
Next Sunday (Jan. 29) Our Lady of Lourdes will have another Reunion Mass. This time it will be at Mary Queen of Peace in Mandeville. Looking forward to seeing some people whom I still haven’t seen since Katrina.
I should mention we are now living in the camp in Slidell. Phone and Internet is now working so I am working from here. I’m sure I missed a few things. That’s what I get for waiting almost two months to make another post.
