Less than 7 weeks

Monday, May 29th, 2006

As of Sunday May 28, 6 weeks, 6 days. Things are coming together well. Looks like we have our apartment.

Rep. William Jefferson (Democrat – La. – CD – 2) is involved in a scandal. Some of the Republicans are attacking the way the investigation has taken place because the FBI is part of the executive branch while Congress is part of the legislative branch. It’s too early too tell right now, but I won’t be surprised if he wins re-election.

Speaking of re-election, Ray Nagin won re-election. I’m not in New Orleans and it is not that big of deal to me (though I do work in N.O.).

And speaking of Nagin, Douglas Brinkley released a book a few weeks ago called “The Great Diluge” will explains who screwed up during Hurricane Katrina. Not sure if it covers St. Bernard any. But it puts a lot of blame for what happened in New Orleans on Nagin.

And speaking of Brinkley, I have been reading one of his other books “Parish Priest: Fr. Michael McGivney and American Catholicism”. I recommend it to any Catholic. For those of you who don’t know, Fr. Michael Joseph McGivney is the founder of the Knights of Columbus.

And speaking of the KC’s (I’m on a role; I need to keep it going, at least a little more.) Our council will be having a meeting on June 10 to decide if we keep it going or not. Katrina has severly screwed us up.

And speaking of Katrina….. not much new at this time. Just pray that it will be another 40 years (or never) before we get another Hurricane like Katrina. (Trying to think of a way to flow to the next topic….) Katrina sucks.

And speaking of things that suck, American Idol is over for this season. More people voted for this than the Presidential Election. I have a suggestion: allow people to only vote in one or the other, but not both. OK, so most of the people that voted in AI probably didn’t vote in the last election anyway.

That’s all for now. I am working an online photo album for the site. It shouldn’t be much longer before it’s up.

Small Bits and Pieces

Maybe I’ll stick with shorter, more frequent entries.

Britney Spears was in the news twice this week. Why is this even on the news? No one cares.

NSA phone tracking: I am a little uneasy about this, but if the government was only tracking who was communicating with terrorists and nothing more, I don’t have a problem with it.

Gen. Hayden for the CIA: I don’t know much about him but see nothing indicating he is a bad choice.

Louisiana is working on a bill that would ban the sale of offensive video games to people under 18. Read the whole bill. I don’t like it.

The Cannes Film Festival “panned” The DaVinci Code. That means the movie is really really bad or it is actually good since it seems they have bad tastes in movies. Anyway, this movie is a work of fiction. The author can’t even tell John and Mary Magadaline apart. Don’t bother giving Hollywood any of your money. They will just use it to lobby congress to pass more anti-consumer legislation.

Network Outage & Immigration

Keeping this one short again. But a short post is better than no post.

Cable went out Friday night around 8:00 or so. Television and Internet both. Furtuneately I didn’t have anything for work. I spent most of the weekend with Robin. Sunday night cable television was back on but still no internet. So I had to go to my grandparents’ house to work today (Monday). My parents said internet access was restored around 5:30 or so Monday afternoon. Let’s hope we get like a 6 or 7% discount off of our bill this month to make up for that.

I caught Bush’s speech on immigration this evening. It’s an improvement over the past. I don’t think Bush really wanted to do anything, but he had to. Bush’s low poll number are from both Democrats and Republicans. One of the main complaint from Republicans is the fact he was doing nothing to stop illegal immigration. So now he is doing something, but he still has a ways to go.

I usually sleep until 8 but was up at 6 or so this morning and did not get much sleep last night so I am keeping this real short and going to bed early. (12:20am is early. :) )

Congratulations to everyone who is graduating this month.

As of Monday, 61 days left til the wedding. Two months. That means we are at the half way point to a few deadlines. It will be a fun two months.

Keeping it Short

Two things:
Contact your Senator and tell them you support Senator David Vitter’s Title X Amendment. Title X uses federal funding (tax dollars) for family planning, which is mainly abortion. Vitter’s Amendment would eliminate Title X funding being used for abortion.

Minuteman Project Founder Jim Gilchrist is considering running for President in 2008. Of all of the current people considering running, he is defintely on top of my list.
